Wisbech had been promised a competitive day with important teams from all over the region and full media coverage. What they actually got was a howling gale, a few mums and dads with cameras, three embarrassingly easy victories, and one half-decent game. They won the tournament by a staggering 166 points to only 5 conceded.

A nearby windsock never deviated from the horizontal all morning as
Wisbech set about the opposition. The home side were dispatched 59 – 0
and, after a reasonable rest, Ely went the same way with score 48 – 0.
Fenland Barbarians, a team made up of players from Bourne and Spalding,
had brought a physically big squad, and had enjoyed an easy morning until
they met Wisbech. Narrowly surviving an early period of pressure, Wisbech
kept their heavier opponents out, and Michael Gillick broke away to score
between the posts. Darryl Veenendaal converted, but Fenland came back with
an unconverted try. After a bruising period of play in which William
Pettit went off injured. Wisbech awarded a penalty just outside the
Barbarian’s 10-meter line; Veenendaal seized the initiative taking a
quick penalty broke up the right hand side of the pitch, nicely floated
pass out to Michael Gillick to score under the posts. The conversion left
Fenland too much to do, and the game ended 14-5 to Wisbech.

The last game, against Boston Grammar, was a stroll for Wisbech, who only needed to field six players to put another 45 points onto the score sheet, and justly claim the trophy. Captain Veenendaal was delighted to accept the award, and was happier still to hear that he had been awarded "player of the tournament"
With this spectacular end to the season, the Wisbech players can now afford to hang up their boots for the summer with another trophy in the cabinet and the reassurance of yet another job well done.
The scorers for Wisbech:
Tries: Michael Gillick (6), Josh Seale (5), George Fraulo (3), Trigger Coe
(3) Darryl Veenendaal (3) Daniel Lamb (2), David Young (2) De la Rey Veenendaal
(2), William Pettit and Jonathan England
Cons: Veenendaal 17 (a significant number of kicks where forfeited so as
to not to waist time!)
