Under 13s - Sunday 16th of March 2002
Wisbech 39          West Norfolk 0

On a dry pitch and in warm and sunny conditions, Wisbech felt able to start without six first team players, and the coaches' confidence was soon rewarded with a try from prop Ben Taylor. With several team members playing out of position, Wisbech possession did not come as quickly and tidily as normal, but by the time Trigger Coe scored a trademark back-row try from a scrum close to the posts, the boys in red had imposed their authority on the visitors. West Norfolk had a much heavier pack, and won plenty of ball from set scrums, but they were no match for Wisbech in loose play, and their runners wilted under a succession of heavy tackles from the home side. Coe scored again just before half-time to bring the score to 15-0.

For the second half Wisbech brought on first team regulars William Pettit at flanker, Jonathan England at scrum-half, and Darryl Veenendaal at stand-off. This snuffed out any lingering hopes the visitors might have had of getting back into the game. Tries from Veenendaal (2) James Wright and Josh-Ben Anderson, plus 2 conversions from Veenendaal brought the match to a close with the score at 39-0. The
Wisbech forwards had a fairly gentle day, but will need to drive lower and recycle the ball faster against sterner opposition in the forthcoming Norfolk Cup Final. For his all round safe handling, constant involvement and impressive defensive play, centre Daniel Lamb was named Man-of the-Match

Wisbech U13's will next be in action when the meet Diss in the NORFOLK RFU 2002/2003 BARCLAYS YOUTH CUP FINAL, to be played at Wisbech on the 30th March. Diss had earlier dispatched of West Norfolk 56 - 0 in their semi-final match. The last time these two teams met was in the U12 final of the North Walsham Festival which Wisbech won 21 - 5. "That was a year ago - in rugby a lot changes in a year. We will definitely not be complacent or underestimate Diss" the Wisbech coach commented.
