We pick our dream Wisbech RUFC XV...........updated

After quite some substantial debate Wisbechrugby.org.uk and its selection committee of 10, made up of some of the finest knowledgeable rugby connoisseurs have selected a “hypothetical” or fantasy first choice ‘club dream 22, made up from the 1st XV across all the youth teams from all the players currently in action for Wisbech.

As to be expected there is some changes after a couple of weeks of action. With the under 13 putting in three magnificent wins deservingly sees Michael Gillick in the side after he had given a superb performances force in all three these matches. Steve Priest's consistent form for both the Colts and 2nd team see him move up to the bench. With the return to the 1st XI of Nigel Harrison given some more game time would surely make his way into the 22, not to mention when players such as Steve Foster (injured) & Matt Murdock return.

With a number of accredited and experienced captains at our disposal such as Kristjan Feaviour, Andrew Claydon, Darryl Veenendaal and Paul Lee, picking a captain for the team is not an easy decision. However we have settled for the youngest candidate in Darryl Veenendaal. We opted for a captain that can lead and direct the game from the pivot position rather then the engine room. His captaincy of a side that has one of the most impressive track records to date of any Wisbech side, says a lot for the skipper. Looks also played a part............and on those grounds Kristian never stood a chance.........

We have also decided to pick our strongest available bench. We believe we have picked players that can make a difference. We have opted for a very interchangeable bench, Paul Lee able to cover either loose head or hooker, Coe both second row and No 8. Darryl being able to cover scrumhalf necessitates the need for extra cover at Flyhalf and midfield cover.

15 – Paul Marsden  (u/16)

8 - Dominic Garfoot (1st XV)
14 – Rudi Van der Merwe (1st XV) 7 – Tom Martell (u/16)
13 – Michael Gillick (u/13) 6 – Solomon Prestidge ( u/13)
12 – Georges Fraulo (u/13) 5 - Kristjan Feaviour (1st XV)
11 - Joshua Seale (u/13) 4 – Mathew Desborough (1st XV)
10 – Darryl Veenendaal (u/13) (C) 3 – Peter Lankfer (1st XV)
9 – Andrew Claydon  (u/16) 2 – Danny Harvey (u/16)
  1 – Richard Pepper (1st XV)

Replacements: 16 Paul Lee (Slippery) (1st XV), 17 Peter Cuss (u/13), 18 Max Malkin (u/16), 19 William Pettit (u/13), 20 Trigger Coe (u/13), 21 Steve Priest (Colts), 22 Tom Long (1st XV).

Coach: Chris Dawson
Although not officially coaching at Wisbech this season, Chris played a huge part in the senior players pre-season training, which they rated very highly. He also played a significant part assisting and advising the under 13 coaches and their success speaks for it self. But it is his away from Wisbech coaching credentials that underlines our decision: coaching Gresham School 1st and 2nd team and his involvement in as assistant coach to a number of nationally recognised coaches (name dropping is something we leave to county officials....) who rate his input very highly. But the again.....a prophet is never recognised or appreciated in his own village........

Surely no debate in this category?

Let the debate begin.....in the mean time lads, its all to play for!
